Unforgettable…our
first dog.
I
can still see him, as if he were in front of me, a young, lively schnauzer,
quite independent, a dog of great character and it was his temper that let him
pass the CAL 2 (a working trial) with very little training.
He
was amazingly clever and I could tell you plenty of events to confirm what I’m
saying. He was four when we decided that it was time for him to get married. We
chose an outstanding puppy, out of an important mating and, seeing me with the
“she-puppy” in my arms, he must have thought we were going to make a barter.
This is probably the reason why when Bluebell’s breeder asked if he might let him run just to
evaluate how he moved Sir wouldn’t take a step, stuck on the floor.
Only
when we went out together he realized that I was carrying “his bride” and as soon as we got home, he ran to the basket where his toys were
kept and brought Bluebell all of them.
When
we think of him we remember a marvellous dog, better a marvellous friend, and regret his
dignity and his exceptional leader endowments.
We’ll
never forget that “high-class old gentleman”, as Mrs. Jeannette Seltz reported
the last time we showed him in the Veteran class.
